Kuretake Kumeginga Fountain Pen – Akanezome Shikatsuno (Deer Antlers) - Red

Introducing the Kuretake Kumeginga Fountain Pen – Akanezome Shikatsuno (Deer Antlers), an exquisite writing instrument that embodies traditional Japanese craftsmanship and natural beauty.

The Art of Akanezome Dyeing
In addition to the well-known indigo dye, Akanezome is a vibrant red dye derived from the roots of the madder plant (Rubia cordifolia). This natural dyeing process involves washing, drying, and boiling the roots, allowing various shades of red, scarlet, orange, yellow, and brown to emerge through precise mixing techniques.

Heritage Craftsmanship
Kuretake, a celebrated Japanese brand with a history dating back to the Nara period, employs ancient dyeing techniques to create stunning deer antler pen shafts. Using a meticulous seven-layer overlapping process, each pen showcases a unique shade with a translucent quality that highlights the natural patterns of the antler.

Sustainable Sourcing
The pen barrels are crafted from recycled antlers sourced from Nara deer, which are carefully harvested by experts to prevent injuries among the deer population. Due to the limited availability of suitable antlers, the production of these exquisite pens is rare, making each piece truly special.

Premium Writing Experience
Each Kuretake Kumeginga Fountain Pen is fitted with a high-quality German-made 14K gold nib, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable writing experience.

Elevate your writing with the Kuretake Kumeginga Fountain Pen – Akanezome Shikatsuno, where exquisite craftsmanship and sustainable practices come together to create a truly remarkable writing instrument.

Founded in 1902 by the sumi craftsman Narakichi Watatani in Nara, Japan, Kuretake has its origin rooted in the traditional Japanese art of sumi ink making. A century later, Kuretakeremains committed to produce high quality calligraphy supplies and art materials to express the traditional colors of Sumi-e Japanese ink painting.

They are best known for their Bokuteki (liquid sumi ink), first released in 1958, and the Fude Pens (brush pens), first released in 1980, both of which have remained as popular staple for over 4 decades. Kuretakelives true to their moto to preserve and promote the “warmth of handwriting” and “goodness of handcrafting”.
